Abstract: A new and innovative approach to the material science has demonstrated that photocatalytic activity may be conferred to cementitious construction materials such as paints, mortars, concrete, etc. This technology for the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants is aimed at maintaining the aesthetic characteristics of concrete structures, particularly those based on white cement. The main reason for the discoloration of cementitious materials is the accumulation of colored organic compounds on their surfaces. Suitable amounts of TiO2 have been introduced into cement mixes to render the surface of the resulting structures photo-catalytically active. In the experimental section of this research, the experiments to be carried out were determined, and the experiment schedule was listed. Preliminary experiments determining the material properties and concrete mixture ratios were followed by the main experiments in which four different types of concrete were produced to make comparisons. These concrete types were: (1) NWC (White concrete); (2) T-NWC (White concrete with TiO2 additive); (3) SWC (Self-compacting white concrete); (4) T-SWC (Self-compacting white concrete with TiO2 additive). First, fresh grout tests were applied on these concrete types, then slump and spreading tests and unit volume weight tests. In order to investigate mechanical properties, flexural strength and compressive strength tests were applied on 4x4x16cm prismatic samples that were 1, 3, 7, 14, 28, 60 and 90 days old. Tensile strength in splitting and longitudinal shape changing tests were applied on 28-day-old cylinder samples. The general results were evaluated in consideration of the literature information.
