Laser Action in Praseodymium Doped Borosilicate Glasses in Visible Region

Abstract: Pr3+ doped borosilicate glasses with varying concentrations of SiO2 have been prepared by melt quenching technique. The samples have been characterized by XRD, FTIR and EDX. Physical properties of the sample were computed. Absorption and Fluorescence spectra of the present glass samples have been recorded in the UV-VIS-NIR region by Varian Carry spectrophotometer and Hitachi Model F-4600FL spectrophotometer at room temperature respectively. With the help of Judd-Ofelt parameters and fluorescence data for various emission lines, radiative properties for different emission lines have been calculated. The values sp for 3Po®3H4, 3Po®3F2 transition are maximum in the Pr3+ doped glass material suggesting that 3Po®3H4 can be used as a most probable laser action.
